SAFT - Society, Family, Theatre

How do you find your way to the theatre when you're new to Sweden – and whose responsibility is it to facilitate that journey?

Many children encounter theatre through school, but adults who recently moved to Sweden often lack the same entry points. For some, theatre is completely new; for others, it is something they haven't experienced since leaving their home countries.

Teatercentrum presents SAFT – Society, Family, Theatre. This three-year initiative lowers barriers to performing arts venues, uses theatre as a tool in language development, and creates shared cultural experiences for families. Through SAFT, participants in SFI (Swedish For Immigrants) courses can attend children's theatre with their children.

What barriers exist – and how do we lower them?

Newcomers may face barriers like language obstacles, limited digital literacy, and economic constraints. What can cultural organisations, libraries, SFI teachers, and other relevant actors do to lower these barriers and make culture more accessible? And whose responsibility is it?

The seminar provides insight into the project's background, methods, and experiences, and concludes with an open discussion about accessibility, participation, and culture's role in an inclusive society.

The seminar will be held in English.
