Oxytocin - Backa Teater
The jury’s motivation
Tender and precise puppet theatre with a total focus on the young audience. The expressive puppets and the carefully crafted stage pave the way for approaching the most intimate and fragile issues. The puppeteers navigate with ease through tricky themes such as sex, drugs and puberty. With the help of subtle stage solutions and well-incorporated live music, a story is told about intimacy at all stages of life. It is thorough and heartwarming.
Not everything turns out well, but it goes on anyway.
We are ready to risk everything to get a little closeness. But what do you do when the body is both your best friend and worst enemy?
Oxytocin is a realistic play about being a human of flesh and blood, told through puppets. Inspired by interviews with people of different ages, experiences of and the relationship with the body and its changes are depicted. About puberty, sex, and aging. About being afraid while longing and feeling curiosity in the same moment as being disgusted. Embedded in a recognizable everyday life that contains both vulnerability and cruelty, the grandness in the small is revealed.
