Figurer
- Hugo Hedberg
The Jury’s Motivation
In the performance Figurer, by choreographer Hugo Hedberg, three figures dressed in cloaks support different interior parts of a theatre to explore their dreams – and transforms the cold stage space into a magical place. As audience members, we are delighted to follow the different figures´ mischiefs at the theatre, an adventure filled with both beauty and fragility. The lighting by Casper Wijlhuizen and the costumes by Konrad Lidén are beautiful components of a larger whole, where the logic of dance and the language of theatre come together to create a playful performance that is delightfully absurd.
In the performance Figurer, we follow a trio of mischievous characters with shaky self-esteem who are on a mysterious mission. Dressed in pastel-colored cloaks, long silk gloves, and antique trousers, the characters try to break into a theater to steal something.
Once inside, the theater's dusty interior comes to life and tells of its forgotten dreams of standing on stage, of the theater's history and all its divas. The characters decide to help make the interior's dreams come true, and the performance turns into an absurd number where a chair dances ballet, a curtain sings opera, and a refrigerator performs magic.
Figurer is a performance that explores dreams, the magic of everyday life, the forgotten, and the longing to be seen.
