Is the space for LGBT+ perspectives for a young audience shrinking?
In Sweden we are used to being very free in the topics and perspectives for young audiences. We are now facing a societal backlash due to the increasing influences of neo-conservative ideas, where LGBT+ art and individuals are being targeted. How can we resist self censorship in the programming, how do we prepare the artists in case of protests and how will we care for the children and youth who are in great need of seeing themselves represented and their stories mirrored on stage?
The international network Proud Performing Arts was founded by Swedish Performing Arts Coalition at the ITI World Theatre Congress in 2017.
