Sjaddo

  • Invisible People Contemporary Dance Company

Sjaddo means seed in Lule Sami, a dance production about growing and developing. To listen to one's instinct and intuition, to feel each other and to be present. It all begins with earth being created: the reindeer's body becomes forests, mountains and water. The heart becomes the rhythm of the earth. If we ever feel lost in life, we can put our head close to the ground and hear its heartbeat to find our way back.

Through the stage flows the River of the Pearls, the only free and unregulated river in Jokkmokk filled with protected pearls. The rushing water of the river becomes nature that forms the culture. A reminder of the strong unregulated power that is still here.

This performance is Sápmi in bloom, the Lule Sámi culture is allowed to shine in its own way with its soft language, unique design and force of nature that vibrates beneath the surface. The ten-year-old children in Jokkmokk have written poetry for the performance about what is so unique about growing up in Sápmi. They have written in Lule Sámi and they are so looking forward to sharing their poetry through this artistic work with children within and outside Sápmi to inspire them to also write poetry in their native languages and find what is unique about their culture where they are from.

This performance is empowering and deep where dance is allowed to speak. A performance of several Lule Sámi artistic voices gathered because we believe in culture for children and young people as a strong source of inspiration for life.
