Niclas Malmcrona

International Selection Committee 2026

Niclas Malmcrona is the Director of ASSITEJ Sweden with more than 30 years of experience as a performing arts producer and in organising meetings, workshops and in all parts of the world.

Niclas was responsible for ASSITEJ Artistic Gathering during bibu 2022 and ASSITEJ's World Congress in Malmö and Copenhagen in 2011, has been a member of IPAY's Board of Directors in Philadelphia, USA, and has organised festivals in countries as diverse as Russia and Jordan.

From 1999-2008 Niclas was Secretary General of ASSITEJ International. He is one of the founders of Bibu and the showcase Swedstage. Niclas lives and works in Stockholm.

🎤 What are you most looking forward to being part of the International Selection Committee?
I'm excited to dive into the rich diversity of performing arts for young audiences from around the world and to have in-depth discussion with my colleagues in the committee. As part of the international selection committee, I look forward to discovering bold, moving, and innovative work that speaks to what it means to be young today—and to bringing those voices to bbu. It’s a privilege to help shape a festival that truly reflects the global field and sparks meaningful dialogue.

🎤 What does bibu mean to you?
bibu is close to my heart - it's a platform I helped found to celebrate and challenge the field of performing arts for children and youth. Today, as a board member and ongoing advocate through ASSITEJ Sweden, bibu represents a space where artists, educators, and young people come together. It’s where ideas grow, boundaries are pushed, and young audiences are truly seen and heard.
