The Jury’s Motivation

Gravitation is a newly written “Greek drama” for teenage school audiences about impossible love. We get to follow the two best friends Amadeus and Absy during their first term at high school, a place where no one can escape the gravity of desire. The rigid school environment is transformed through Toni Tora Botwid’s visually surreal world into the madness of the subconscious mind. The actors skilfully convey the characters’ emotional storms with great compassion. The elements come together to create a performance that is funny, moving and beautiful all at once.

Amadeus and Absy are two best friends who both long for and dread their first day in high school. This is where life begins! But Amadeus is not sure he is ready for that big life and everything it entails — he mostly wants things to remain the way they have always been. Then he meets his new teacher, Sonja, who introduces him to Gravity — a philosophical idea about the pull of life choices we cannot resist. Thus begins a turbulent journey for Amadeus, filled with explosive emotions spiralling out of control and affecting everyone around him. Something terrible is about to happen in the small town — a catastrophe worthy of a Greek drama. Can we stop the course of history, or is Gravity too strong?

Gravitation is a play that takes you on a shattering and visually overwhelming journey through a teenager’s subconscious — a place where desire and fear collide in a vortex of emotional storms. Inspired by ancient Greek dramas that explore morality and ethics, the performance is set in a surreal high school environment, dealing with overwhelming emotions and desires, a longing for the big life, and being terrified of everything.

And rabbits.
